Kuvira: One of Avatar's Biggest Missed Opportunities

Today I uploaded a video about Avatar: The Legend of Korra, where I talked about how Korra and Asami becoming gay characters out of nowhere was...basically bad writing in my opinion. One thing that is unrelated to Korra and Asami is Kuvira.

Now Kuvira was one of the biggest missed opportunities for a deep complex villain, especially since she was Korra's final adversary. Kuvira was characterized as a heartless, strict, military leader and was called "the Great Uniter" because she brought order to the Earth Kingdom after Zaheer killed the Earth Queen. If you watched the show then you know what I'm talking about. Here's my problem with Kuvira...we got hardly anything about her.

All we know about Kuvira, was that she was raised by Su after she became an orphan and at the finale we had Kuvira tear up and cry about how she was abandoned and how she didn't want the Earth Kingdom to feel the way she felt. Freaking bollocks. One thing I was always told about when it came to writing, both fiction and just writing an essay was "show, don't tell." Don't tell us Kuvira felt abandoned or felt genuine care for the Earth Kingdom, SHOW US FOR GOODNESS SAKES.

I honestly think a flash back episode or at least more verbal confrontations between Kuvira and Korra, kinda like with what happened between Zaheer and her, would have done leaps and bounds for her character. If we got some motivation behind Kuvira from the beginning of the season it would have made their final battle much more satisfying for me. If Kuvira and Korra would have talked more about how Kuvira felt before the final episode it would have made me want to see Korra succeed more, to not only stop Kuvira's plan, but for Korra to teach Kuvira something else. Granted at the very end that happened, but it only added small bit to Kuvira due to the fact that the story was over. We should have seen Kuvira actually do an act of kindness to an Orphan girl that reminded her of herself so we could see that while her methods were cruel, she really did only want the best for her kingdom.

Zaheer was hands down the best villain due to his rationality and calm demeanor. As much as you didn't want to agree with Zaheer, just his voice and the words he used made you want to listen to him. It's hard to hate someone like that guy, and Kuvira could have been the same. Instead of an evil Dictator she could have been a misguided person doing what she thought was the right thing. We only got small details at the end of the show instead of having the audience actually grow to care about Kuvira.

Kuvira was written to be the mirror Korra needed to look into, and I understand characters like that. Characters that are more or less the evil version of what our Protagonist used to be. It gives the audience perspective when it comes to how much the character has grown and they're useful plot devices. However I do still think the writers could have done a lot more with Kuvira. For a show that does and amazing job with it's Protagonists there always seems to be a lack of great villains and motivations behind them.

A little too angry and neglecting rape culture

I uploaded my video, "Now You Can Be a Rapist Too!" where I talked about a message a guy named Fousey tube was trying to get across. He wanted us all to come together to end rape culture and so he decided to post at the end of his video "Anyone can be a Rapist, even you" or something along those lines.

I flipped shit when I saw that. Now, my opinions are in the video, but there was one thing I neglected to really talk about and that's how we don't live in a rape culture. What saddens me is that this guy and millions of other people actually believe we live in a culture that condones rape. They think we live a country that lets rapists get away with rape, when that's not remotely close to the truth. I've made several videos on Rape Culture but I guess I'll have to make more because that message was ridiculous. I mean, did he honestly think that telling a rapist not to rape would make them say, "Wow...I'm hurting people's feelings and vaginas...I guess I'll stop?" No, of course that's not going to happen.

Now honestly though, I want to know if I was blinded by my anger. So comment below if maybe I missed something because I reacted to harshly. I really want to know how you guys feel.

Roses are Red and Alexandra is Blue, but she really didn't deserve all that poo...

So Alexandra Blue is a young lady that made a video titled, "Dear Men, Please Watch This" where she talked about the Sexodus and men not wanting to date women. If you're reading this then you already know that. What you may not know is that a bunch of MGTOWs got really upset and took what she said personally, and honestly I really don't think she deserved it. Now before I get accused of being a White Knight, hear me out.

Yes, Alex may have been wrong and she's oblivious to the trials of modern dating, however she really didn't deserve the shit she got. Granted she was wrong, but calling her a bitch and snapping at her isn't going to convince her of anything different. She may be a feminist, but unlike any other person I've ever seen with that title, she's actually willing to listen and is even planning to make a response video to address what everyone has said. So yeah, honestly just talk to her. She seems level headed enough to converse with and she replies to some comments, which is more than I can say for most feminists. I think too many men took her video personally and that's where all the anger is coming from. Let's be honest, a lot of MGTOWs are certainly very angry and hurt men. Not all, but a few, and again Alex really didn't deserve all the spit. She was just an oblivious girl, simple as that really, and I think you get more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Freaking Copyright bullshit

So two of my videos were blocked because of copyrighted material I used. The two videos were "Jessica Vanessa's Many Career Options" and "Jen Selter: Uplifting Normalcy." Now honestly, I'm not too upset with the first video being blocked. It was an alright one in my opinion. However the Jen Selter video was completely and utter bullshit. First off I used only about 1:30 of content from barcroft tv, and I didn't even include their audio. I just talked over Jen Selter working out and they blocked the entire 40 minute video. It was freaking ridiculous. Now I have to remake my Jen Selter video, which will be completely different this time around.

So yeah, I have to remake those two videos as well as get "What it Means to Be a Real Woman" out there too. Freaking bullspit. Good news after this Friday I'll be out of school for awhile so A LOT of videos will be coming out. One of them...as I said, will be my remake of the Jen Selter video.
